Culminating Activity
Background: After the students have gone through the primary source documents with a partner, we are going to ask them to think about the war in a more personal way.
Instructions:
1. Create a continuum at the front of your class. You can use masking tape on the floor or project it on the wall. It should look something like the example below.

2. As a pair, the students should decide, based on what they learned in the unit and in analyzing the primary sources, how they personally would have felt about the war if they had been alive at the time. They should find at least three examples or quotations from the primary source documents that helped them decide their position.
3. Ask each pair to come to the front of the room and stand on the continuum line in the position which expresses their opinion. Ask them to explain their position, using the three primary sources they chose.
4. After each group has made its presentation, lead a class discussion to debrief the activity as well as the unit.
